The British Government in Bara- [ v.ak said in a statement that Mr. An- ! thon.v Brooke had been prohibited | from entering Sarawak in order to ensure that the present peaceful state o: the country was undisturbed. A11 oliicial statement from Kuching distributed -officially in F-ingapore said Mr. Brooke had "openly and freipiently expressed ihe intention ot c hanging ihe form of government and restoring the Brooke regime." j It added that Mr. Brooke's presenee in Sarawak would influence J popular feeling ■ hy exploiting Ihe j alfection and prestige attached to the i Brooke name among people of whom j the majority were easily led.
