The most irnportant event of the year as far as"the Rotorua Glub is concerned is the annual Boxing Day sports, befng revived for the first time since the war. An addition to the programme is the inclusion of a 100 yards race for club niembers only, a high jump and shot paiit, also for Rotorua Club members; these three events to be post entrie&.> Monday's Performances. Last club night saw many athletes making their first appearance for the'. season, and the increased attendance v;as most satisfying. The 100 yards men have not quite reached top form yet, although W. Kemeys, the present club champion, did ,v/ell to seeure second place off yards. In fhe one mile, R. Bates, a junior, and F. Shuker made good nse of their long handicaps and finished in that order. Bates, if he deeided .. to train systematically, could be a serious rival to C. Dohnt in fhe junior raees. The best effort in the diseus throw stood" to the credit of Hutchings, a recruit to the junior' ranks. He got the diseus out to 78ft 3in, eompared ■with 74ft 4in by the best of the senfors. In the high jump. J. Balri cleared 5 feet, and in the junior section, J. Wild. jumped 4ft llin, both creditable performances. The women's- events were shared hy Misses Fleming '(50 yards), Gunson (400 yards) and Hardie (high jump. The best effort in the last event was a leap of 3ft lOih by Miss N. Fleming, v/ho was having her first try-out for the season. Goming Meetings. It has been deeided to hold a meeting next Monday eveiling, for which the following Togramme has been arranged: — 75 Yards and 880 Yards, j Shot Put and Hop, Step and Jump, senior and junior. Wiomen's events: | 75 Yards, 120 Yards, Shot Put and j Broad Jump. Children's races will be i held as usual, commencing at 5.30 ! p.m. January 11, 1947: Te Aroha (Herries Park); entries closing December 31. Jan. 18, 1947: Te Awamutu (Albert Pai"k) ; entries closing Jan. 4. Entries for these two open meetings must be on the ofnlcial form and forwarded, together with entry fees, to reach the respective secretaries by the closing date. Both clubs have arranged full programmes, and have offered splendid trophies.
