WELLINGTON, Last Night. if The strike threatened by dairy , 5 l'ectory workers to-day in the j!^ Y'aikato has b'een called off by J, the National Council of New J Zealand Dairy Factory Workers' n Union. The Auckland bsaiich has a membership of 45 dairy • j corapanies in North Auckland, Ui the Waikato, and East Coast. • The secretary, Mr. B. Robertson, of Auckland, said that the council met to-day, andj, would -meet again tomorrow to consider developments in J the dispute over wages and conditions U in factories. He said the council had^ '■ advised" workers in the Waikato to t, continue work, pending further notice. A meeting in Hamilton te-day was k attended -by over 50 representatives of dairy companies from as -far afieid as Kaitaia, Taumarunui and Katikati. Mr. W. N. Perry, of Bruntwood, presided. A motion to exdude the Press, but to issue a statement following the meeting was carried, an amendment to admit the Press being, ; lost on the voices. Prime Minister Thanks Mr. Holland The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, ! has replied to the suggestion from ; Mr. S. G. Holland, that a conference should be held regarding the position on the waterfront, as follows: "I have received your telegram regarding the v/aterfront situation. Please accept my thanks for the S'Uggestiojr of a conference, which will receive the consideration of Cabinet if the steps at present -being taken are unsuccessful. I can assure you I fully appreciate the widespread,. disastrous effect which restricted hours of work are having on the economic life of the country."
