What might liave been a serious fire occu'ried iin Rjepc^:oa jrecently when Mr. T. Brown's woodhouse at the hack of his residence caught alight. Luckily it was noticed in time and assistanee v/as obtained from the storekeeper, Mr. Robertson and Mr. Watt and several others who- formed a bucket brigade and soop- had the fire quelled. The washhouse was completely burned. Most people in the Reporoa district are now connected with the telephone exchange. There are still finishing off jobs to be done to the Post Office, but worlc has been transferred to the new buildin'g and one of the new assistants 'has been appointed. The Postmaster is fo be appointed soon and an offieial opening wi'll then be held. \ The funeral service of the late Mr. Edward Thomals was conducted by the Rev. F. J. Green, Rotorua, and the»hurial took place at the Rotorua Cemetery on Monday. Many beautiful floral tributes v/ere sent and there was a large attendance of Reporoa and Rotorua residents. Deceased is survided by 'his v/idow and two young children, Grahame and Ian. P.W.M.U, A bring-and-buy social evening organised by the ladies of the Presbyterian Women's Mission Union was held in the Reporoa Hall on Saturday evening. It was largely attended and an enjoyable time was spent in games and competitions. Two elocutionary items were given by Miss Clarlc and Mr. Williamson, of Hamilton, after wihich Mr. J. Guxrie tlianked all present for their help in contributing the sum collected to the Church Hall (improvement fund. Personal Master 'Clive Lev/is is at present in the King George Hospital. Mr. A. Walker is seriously ill in King George Hospital. Miss Frances Scott is a patient of a private hospital in Rotorua. Mrs. W. Hickey is in King George Hospital undergoing treatment. Mrs. F. Ross, who has been in tbe Sanatorium at Rotorua, has now returned home.
