THREATENED DAIRY STRIKE
Rotorua Supply Assured f For Holidays Rotorua housewives and caterers are not hepoming seared ■ vet the threatened strike of (dairy faetory workers in the South Auckland area. A visit to several retailers in Rotorua yesterday revealed that there has been no more than the usual demand for butter since a strike was mooted'. Moist of Rotorua's butter eomes from South Auckland, but a fair share comes from Bay of Plenty farms. and factories. Locally distrihuted ihntter comes practically straight from the faetory to the consumer, and is not held for any length of time in storage, However, supply for Rotorua over the Christmas and iNew Year holiday period has been ordered, and should be delivered to freezex*s in the town to-day. This means that should' faetory workers go out on strike on Thursday, the repercussions will not be felt in this district until after the holiday period at least. In the event of such a strike, it is thought probable that supply for affected areas will have to be drawn from the bulk cold-storage plants in Auckland. However, as the butter stored there is not packed in the conventional one pound pats, re-wrap-ping may present another problem.
