To-Day's Weather Forecast v The Government Meterologist has issued the following weather xeport and forecast: — ■Situation: Anti-cyclones are .situated to the east and south-east of New Zealand, and a depression west of Southland is moving slowly in with a more vigorous depl'ession •moving in from Tasmania. British Bowlers Invited J The New Zealand Bowling Association is endeavouring to' p.rrange for a visit to New Zealand of a team of British bowlers during the 1947-48 season. Haven for Pigeons
An unofficial haven on the upper reaches of the Raglan Harbour has ibeen adopted in the last few years by exhausted or injured pigeons. They arrive at a farm there each year, are fed, and then go their way. Mos£ of them are content with a -brief respite,^ but >some have oatstayed their' welcome and have defied eiforts to induce them to seeh new quarters. Last Mile the Hardest Two recent shipments of goods to a New Plymouth importer, after having been brought from England to Wellington in les's than 40 days, toolc more than 50 days to travel from Wellington to New Plymouth. The importer stated that these shipments were very badly needed. - In future, he intended to have the bills of lading made out to Wellington, and have the goods railed to New Plymouth, •This would save time, but would mean that the ultimate price of the goods would be higher.
Suuday Theatres Cancelled Thelre will be no Bunday entertainment in Wellington theatres after December 31. This was de'cided at a combined meeting of the N.Z. Theatfe Places 'of Amu'sements, aind AlliecT Employees' Union and the Wellington District Motion Picture Opera-" tors' Union. The whole question of Sunday entertainment was discussed by a large attendance of members of both unions. The text of a motion carried undnimoiusly was "that members will not work at entertainments open to the public on Sundays, this decision to be conveyed to tlie employers with the intimation that it will become effeetive on December 31." i i a
