At this juncture the Greek Government soug-ht the assistance of His Majesty's Government towards solving thfe crisis. Mr. Braine, the Labour At-' tache at the British Embassy at Rome, was sent to Athens and he • reeom•mended setting up a G.C.L. executive including' the seven members elected at the March congress, plus- five members from the E.R.G.A.S. group, and the •supervision -by this executive of the new elections, with observers from international trade unions. On November 11, M. Tsaldaris. a-n-nounced that the Greek Government accepted Mr. Braine's proposals. The plan was, however, hotly opposed by the extreme Right and rejected by the extreme Left. The latest news f-rom Greece suggests that reconciliation between the two views is'still a possihility. Mediation hy the W.F.T.U., " as reported from Paris to be contemplated, may assist to this end.
