As a result, unset diamonds are in liveliest demand by jewellers. At an auction sale i/i Wellington one brooch fitted with 121 small diamonds realised . £485, while a five-stone rihg brought £550. v A gold riiig containing a single square emerald found a buyer at £315, while a dainty wristlet .watch set in small diamonds brought £230. One ring of handsome design — a large ruhy set in diamonds— brought £95, and another . diamond fing £57 10s. A string of pearls beautifully graded brought £660. It was stated that the majority of buyers did not wish to retain these articles of jewellery as they werh, but wanted the diamonds (and other jewels) to use in new settings.
