BRITISH AMBASSADOR TO BE RECALLED
U.N. Resolution On Spain Being Implemented LONDON, Dec. 14. Sir Victor Mallet, British Ambassador to Madrid, is to be recalled soon as the result of the decision of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to ask member States to withdraw Ministers from Spain, says the Evening News. The British Embassy- in Madrid will function normally under a Charge d'Affaires. The United Nations General Assembly decided to ask all members immediately to- withdraCw their Ambassadors and Ministers from Madrid. The resolution branded and barred it from taking part in any international organisation established under the United Nations. The proposal to withdraw envoys falls short of the outright break in diplomatic and commercial relatio-ns sought . by the more vigorous antiFranco forces. Their demands were tempered by British and American fears that too severe measures might touch off civil war in Spain. The resolution, whdch was passed by 34 votes to 6, was denounced by Signor Castro (E1 Salvador) as intervention in Spain's internal affairs which was outside the United Nations' jurisdiction. His speech was followed by boos and eheers from the public galleries. The United Press points out that none of the Great Powers at present Plaintains full relatio'ns with Spain. The resolution cleared the way for possible action- by the Seeurity Councii, which was asked to consider "adequate measures" to be taken if within a reasonable time a Spanisli Government is not established on a more democratic basis. From Madrid it is, repor'ted that the Parliament of Spain has passed a resolution protesting against foreign interference with Spain and pledging allegiance to ihe Franeo regime.
