BASIC WAGE INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA

A'dditional Seven Shillings For Male Workers MELBOURNE, Dec. 14. An inerease in the basic wage for male workers of 7/- a week in all the capital cities of Australia, exeept Hobart, where it will be 6/-, has been granted by the full Arbitration Ccurt. This is an interim award pending the determination of claims .for a full review of the basic wage. All loadings on the basic wage will be retained at their existing amounts uptil otherwise ordered. The Court estimates the additional cost to employers at about £26,000,000 a year. The new basic wage in the various States will be:-New South Wales, £5/8/-; Victoria, £5/6/-; Queensland, £5/1/-; South Australia, £5/2/-; West Australia, £5/2/-; Tasmania, £5/3/-.
