JANIE SEDDON SOLD FOR USE AS TRAWLER

The well known former Governrnent examination vessel, Janie Seddon, has been sold by the War Assets Realisation Board for use as a trawler by the Motueka Tralwling Company. The Janie 'Seddon was built in 1901 by Fleming and Ferguson of Port Glasgow, and is a twin-screw motor vessel, 295 feet in length, and a •breadth of 17.9 feet, and a draught of 8.5 feet. . Driven by a 360 h.p. engine, she .has a gross weight of 109.25 tons. The vessel arrived in New Zealancf in 1994 under the command of . 'Capt. Fraser, who is at present living in Dunedin. Her master for many years after Gaptain Fraser retired, was Captain G. Klee, of Seatoun. For many years the Janie Seddon was used by the Defence Department/ anidi before the last war was used by the Customs and Health Departments to transport officials meeting incoming overseas vessels. She was taken over by the Navy in 1940, and in the early war years she did some minesweeping, mainly 'in the Cook Strait area. The Janie Seddon was released from naval service in July, 1946, and had been . berthed at Queen's Wharf awaiting disposah
