MAJESTIC THEATRE

TO-jNIGHT-hTQ-NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME As a distinct departirre from enervating "drawing room drama," the lightning fast motorboat thriller "Fast Life," opens to-night at the ' Majestic Theatre with ara. exceptionally strong cast headed by William s Haines aind Madge Evans. I iScenes of the boat races filmed ' at Catalina Island and in the Los Angeles Harbour show 'hig'h^powerded craft pounding over the waves at close to 100 miles per hour. Cameras : were mounted on speedboats to follow the racers, which gives the spectator the saane effect as though he I were actually riding in the- race. 'The picture is. based on E. J. ! Rath's aiiovel, "Let's Go," dealing with the adventures of two m.otorboat . mechanics who are determined to' en- ' ter their boat in international competition. Th© various complicationis in l which they become involved are work•ed out through a iblend of comedy and drama tha.t is packed with sure-fire ' entertainment. Wlilliam Haines portrays "Sandy", 'the mechanic-inven.tor who develops .plans for the new engine. Cliff Edwards has a Mlarious comedy role as iHaines' laissistant, who is continually messing things up throughout the pioture. Madge Evans is cast as the daughter of a racing boat huilder who ruins hiroself firiancially trying to build craft for the international raees. The all-star cast .ailso features Conrad Nagel, Arthur Byron, Warburton Gamble, Kenneth Thomson, Alhert Gran and Ben Hendricks. Second Feature The return of Viima Bar.ky to the screen is an event which thousands ■of theatxes will be celebrating thds month. It is with pieasure that the Mujestie Theatre announces her return in "The Rebel," a dramatie story of love and war in the high Alps. There is no doubt that "The •Rebel" is (he forerunner of many mere Yilma Banky productions. Already negotiations on the strength of her splendid work in "The Rebel" are under way with two Amsrican producers. "The Rebel" stars Luis Trenker, who will be remembered always in this country for the splendid impres&ion he made i,n "The Doomed Battalion," mentioned by nearly all reviewers last year as one of the best ten pictures. Yictor Varconi, who was with Trenker in that production, is also with Trenker and Banky in "The Rebel," which opens at the Majestic Theatre to-night. "The Rebel" strikes a high note of patriotism, sacrifice of love for duty and heroism ag'ainst staiggering odds. The forces are so unequai that the defenders have to fall back on huge avalanches of rocks so placed that at a signal they fall on 'the close columns of the French with dreadful effect. But it is of these superhuman efforts that heroes are nii;.de. Such a h-ero is the star of "The Rebel."
