Uoiemployed Girls "In these days when it is difficult for girls to get positions, even after passing the matriculation examinations, I hope that, rather than hiave the girls at a loose eind, parents will send them iback to school whsrever possib'le, so that th'ey may he given useful subjects that are crowded out hy the matriculation work," said Miss A. Dominion's Tourist Servioe .The opinion that the general rnethods of the Government Tourist Department could be great-ly improved was expressed by a visitor from, Loindon, Mr. H. Voorzanger, in an int-er-view in New Plymouth. There was no elasticity ahout the prograntmes he said. He had been to one resort for 16 days, to .another for two, and to another for five days. "I was quite ready to leave the first after lifhree days," he continued, "but I had to stay out my time. Here in New Plymouth I would like to have stayed longer, but I have to go off to-night. Again, they give you little or no peace at the leading resorts. They lare always wanting you to go on trips, and when you do not appear keen they enlarge upon the wonders of the prospects. There are many like myself who would rather be left aloine to malce their way ahout the country jus-t as it pleases us." Cattle Bogged The loss of 22 head of cattle was nafrowly averted on Saturday (afternoon at the Waitangi Bridge, when th'e animals became bogged in the mud bordering the Ngaruroro River (says the HaWkes Bay Herald). A gang of man- eet to work with ja hreak-doyn lorry and ropes and succeeded in pulling them out safe and sound, although many of the beasts were upto their neck in the slime. The animlals, belonging to. Mr. L. E). Harris, who has a farm at Clive, h'ad been placed in a paddoclc adjacent to the mud flats. Another mob was being driven along the road and these appiarently attracted the beasts, which endeavoured to join the mob hy means of crossing the mud to the road. Owing to the soft nature of the silt, however, they quickly became bogged. The task of pulling them out was not an easy one and the men engaged put in much hard work in saving the animals. Owing to the soft nature of ihe. mud, th'e men themselves' were in dlaaiger of becoming engulfed.
