CARNSVAL MEETING ! jLARGE CROWD ATTEND AT GOVERNMENT GROUNDS INTERESTING EVENTS There was a good attendance at the Government Grounds yesferday lafternoon when the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club conduefced its third arnual carnival meeting in ideal weather. With visiting competitors from Auckland, Wellington, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty the various events on the programme were of unusual interest and during the afternoon some fine racir.g was witnessed. Alfhough he tfailed to hreak his own • New Zealand Hop, Step and Jump record, the performances of L. Schneideman (Wellington) were closely followed and in this and the broad jump events he established records for the track. A Gisborne team headed by G. Quinn, secured a good measure of suecass at the meeting, Quinn giving the impression that he is likely j to prove a very strong track runner. j In the cycling events Rotorua Club j members held their own against the best riders of the province and the ladies events proved interesting throughout. The only novelty event on the programme, a cycle race between a penny-farthing, tandem, juriiping and modern cycle proved very amusing. Throughout the day the programme was decided with a minimum of delay and interesting information. on the competitors, their performances and records was provided the public by the Davies Public Anr.ouncing System.
