LONDON QUOTATIONS SHOW: A FURTHER DROP STOCKS REDUCED
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
London, Dec. 25. It wras hoped that the news of restrietions on Australian and New Zealand huttter exports would have steadied the market. This unfortunately has not been the case and prices have declined from 3s to 4s per cwt. Consumption is still very good with retail prices at 9d to lOd pcr lb, ,a,nd stocks in cold store have been reduced to 440,000 boxes, but the heavy gradings of Australia and New Zealand, and the large quantities due to arrive in January, have made buyers nervous and they are only oper&ting from hand to mouth. There is one favourable factor in the position — namely, the considerahle shrinkage of Continental supplles, except Russian, which continue larger than last year. Cold ' store stocks of Russian Baltic butters have rapidly declined, however, and should be practically clear-ed by the end of the year so that Empire butter will then have a larger outlet, with Danish as the only serious competitor.
