spirit of goodwill in central europe lacking SWASTIKAS ON BUILDINGS
— By Telegraph— Copyright).
(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) New York, Dec. 26. The New York Times Vienna correspondent states that although two days' thaw relieved the streets of snow, the winter sports people were able to enjoy .Christmas .on the nearby hills which attracted tourists from all centres of Europe. This to some degree counteracted the loss of the German tourist trade which was virtually barred by the Nazis. Christmas Eve shoppers were startled to see on many buildings, unusual Christmas bonfires, not yule logs, but gigantic fiaming -swastikas which the police removed. Indeed tbere is less spirit of goodwill observed in Central Europe than at any Christmas since the war. Contrary to usual custom no political amnesties were issued this year although there are 60 German Nazis and Communists spending their holidays in concentration camps.
