Wellington, Monday.... While paddling at Kawatiri Beach, Raumati, on Saturday afternoon, Brian Monkman, aged 8, the son of Mr. Leonard' Monkman, of Wellington, manager of the Yorkshire Insurance Coy., was swept from his feet by heavy surf and drowned. The boy was paddling with Rae Turner, aged 11 and also with Mr and Mrs. C. G. Turner, of Wellington, when an extra large wave swept them off their feet. Willing helpers rushed to their assistance and the girl was brought to the shore and' the boy was swept 25 yards down the beach before his mother went to his rescue and could secure him.
