TRUCK OVER BANK

ACCIDENT AT TANEATUA END OF WAIMANA GORGE Opotiki, Wednesday. A truck driver, Mr. J. H. Morell, married employed by Mr. S. Brewster, of Opotiki, was admitted to the Opotiki Hospital this morning suffering from injuries as the result of a motor accident. Mr. Morrell left Opotiki last night with a load of pigs for the Taneatua railway station. At the western end of the Waimana Gorge something went wrong with the steering gear, "and the truck plunged over a bank. Fortunately the truck's descent was stopped by trees, otherwise it would have plunged into a deep pool. Mr. Morell's injuries included a dislocated shoulder. His son, aged five, escaped uninjured. Both had a narrow escape from death. The pigs were tipped from the lorry and several were drowned.
