(Rec. Dec. 30, 9.20 p.m.) Berlin, Dec. 19. The economic Minister, Herr Schmitt, addressing the new Foreign Trade Council, said that the number of workers in the export ipdustries had fallen from 2,500,000 to 1,750,000 in three years and foreign trade from £1,350,000,000 to £50Q,QpO,000 which is stagnation contrasted with the general increased actiyity and other nations- prosperity. Germany was prepared for the closest economic relations with othef nations who were willing to ahandon short sighted exclusive tariffs becauge she cpuld only pay if these were her customers. The councilj therefore, was considering im^ortant tariff nud taxation proposals.
