Concert in Square An amateur concert party from Gisborne asked for the use of the Town Square on the eveninig; of January 3 and 4, oifering to give 50 per cent of the takings to the Mayor's Fund. It also asked for right to screen off part of the square for the purpose. Cr. O. H. Coleman approved of the request and moved that the application be granted. In the course of discussion Cr. E. T. Johnson contended that it was wrong to screen off any portion of the square although' he would lilce to see the Mayor's Fund benefit. Cr. G. Steele agreed with this view and seconded an amendmenf by Cr. Johnson in this direction, but the original motion to grant permission for the concert was carried. The Stoclc Route The stock foute through the borough again came up for consideration. by the Borough Couneil last evening when the County Gouncil wrote pointing out that as most of the eattle were now driven round the Hamurana route the question of using Malfroy Road might reasonably be re-opened. Cr. F. Goodson gave favour to the request, but Cr. E. T. Johnson strongly opposed the use of Malfroy Road. Grs. Woolliams and G. Steele favoured standing. by- the route selected. Cr. O. H. Coleman thought that from all points of view the present route was a round-about one and it might well :be reviewed by reference to the general committee. The couneil, however, decided not to reopen the question.
