USEFUL RAIN
saves crops of farmers throughout province of canterbury CONTINUANCE LIKELY Christchurch, Sunday. Eteady rain set in from th'e east to-day with every prospect of a continuance. The rain is very badly needed. Already sufficient has fallen to freshen the pastures and revive the crops, ibut to do an. appreei, ahle amount of good, much more rain is needed. However, the prospects for a steady downpoujr for a usefM period are better now than they have been for many weeks and a continuance of this ea&terly weather with' steady rain falling^ would assure the season for farmers. The raiir is general over the province and in North Caii.terbury, where the drought has' been most severe', half an inch has fallen.
