' Earthquake Monument Removed | The huge rock on the Napier - Breakwater Road, which came down | in the slip on February 3, 193-1, is ! now no more. The borough authori- ; ties decided to have it brok-en up, because it was obstructing the view from motorists travelling along the road from the direction of the breakj water. On more than- one occasion, j indeed, cyclists have narrowly escap- | ed being knocked down. Yesterday . afternoon the rock's death-knell was j sounded to the aceompaniment of gelignite explosions. There is still a large piece of it at the side of the road which will be blasted to-day. A large quantity of excellent road material will be obtained from this rock.
