CHRISTMAS CONCERT
sanatorium patients entertained by women's club. A most enjoyable Christmas concert arranged by the Rotorua Wjomen's Club was given at the Sanatorium last Friday evening before an appreciative audience of patients and members of the club. The men's ward, in which the concert was held, was attractively decorated with large bowls of pink sweet peas, gladioli, sweet william, and asparagus fern. The president of the club, Mrs. D. M. Ford, presided, and an excellent programme was provided by local artists. The first item was a dainty poke-bonnet ballet by girls of the "Rlotorula High School, arranged by ' Mrs. S. Macdonald. Songs by Miss J. MacDonald, Miss M. Krorifeld, Mr. ' Mitehell, sen., and Mr. J. J. Buchan were greatly appreciated, and recitations given by Miss T. Johnsoti! arid 'Miss Stella Jones received their full measure of°applause. A violin solo 1 by Mr. Mitehell, sen., proved a very 'popular item on the programme', and monologues by Mrs. A. M. Robertson were very much enjoyed. Other itenls included a sailor's hornpipe by Miss Barbara Holland, a sailor's ballet by pupils froni the Rotorua High School, and humorous songs by Mr. Harris, who also played popular airs on the concertina. Oomriiuriity singing . brought the programme to a very jolly close, and was followed by a dainty supper served hy the Women's Club, a special feature being a ha.ndsome Christmas cake, which was cut by Mr. Cox. Paper hats, which were worn hy all the guests, added an individually gay note to the evening. Mrs. Harding, on behalf of the matron, nursing- staif and patients, thanked the club and the performers very warmly for the delightful entertainment given them that evening, and Mrs. Ford, on behalf of the Women's Club, extended seasonal greetings to the patients and staff, and added special thariks to ,all who had assisted with the evening's entertainment. At the conclusion of the president's remarks, home-made sweets and cigarettes were distributed among the patients, and a very happy and enjoyable evening was coricluded with "Auld Lang Syrie." lAccompanists for the evening were Mrs. Mitehell, sen., Miss R. Holland, Mr. H. J. F. Heley and Mr. J. Buchan.
