FOREIGN COUNTRIES PAYING THIRTY MILLION TO THEIR SHIPS BURDEN ON TAXPAYERS

London, Dec. 12. Mr. Walter Runciman, speaking at Newcastle, estimated that foreign excheauers were paying nearly £30,000,000 in cash annually to support shipping. There was a good deal of truth in the contention that it was unfair to throw the trade hetween Britain, India and Australia open to vessels of all nations when British and Scandanavian were the only ships not receiving Government assistance. Eventually the most efficient would ■wiri, but meanwhile tbe taxpayeis oi all countries would have to bear an enormous load.
