FARMER KILLED

struck BY express on BAD corner at hoteo FATAL HEAD INJURIES

-By Telegraph— Copyright).

Auckland, Sunday. Fatal head injuries were received by Trevor Gubb, a young farmer, of Hoteo, when a dray in which he was riding to his home was struck by the south bound express at the Hoteo level crossing on Saturday afternoon. Gubb was thrown from the dray and struck his head on the road. He died shortly after his admission to the Auckland hospital. The dray was smashed to pieces but the shafts* broke off, and the horse had a miraculous escape from harm. The crossing is a few chains south of the Hoteo station at which the express does not stop and is regarded as particularly dangerous. A cutting on each side of the road and a bend in the line prevent anything being seen either from the road or the train after the crossing is reached. Deceased was single and 20 years of age. He was employed by his father, Mr. T. A. Gubb, a well-known farmer of Hoteo and Kaipara Flats.
