MAMAKU HAS EASY WIN OVER NGONGOTAHA TEAM WiATT CUP SERIES A match in the first round of the Watt Cup series was played at Mamaku during the week-end when the home club defeated a visiting Ngongotaha team. Mamaku went through the day without losing a match and lost only thfee sets in 35. A feature of the ladies' games was the excellent recovery of Miss Carron who with the score at set-all and 2-5 down, came through to win 6-5. Isdale 6-1, 6-0; Miss King beat Miss Starr 6-1, 6-5; Miss Carron beat Miss R. Jarlov 6-4, 5-6, 6-5. Men's Singles F. Reed beat Bailey 6-1, 6-0; Brown beat Sealey 6-2, 6-4; Thorn beat Young 6-5, 6-4; Simmons beat Smith 6-2, 6-3. Ladies' Doubles Mrs. Thorn and Miss Brennan beat Misses E. Jarlov and J. Isdale 6-1, 6-2. Mjisses Carron and King beat Misses Starr and R. Jarlov 6-2, 5-6, 6-4. Men's Doubles Reed and Brown beat Bailey and Young 6-1, 6-0; Thorn and Simmons' beat Sealey and Smith, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Mixed Doubles Reed and Miss Brennan beat Bailey and Miss Starr 6-0, 6-0; Brown and Mrs. Thorn beat Seaky and Miss Isdale, 6-2, 6-4; Thorn and Miss King beat Young and Miss E.
