The Qovernment meteorolofllst leaued the followihg weather report and forecast last night: — General situation: A depression with a slight cyclonic centre covers the Tasman Sea and is nearing New Zealand. Winds: North-easterly to north at first over most of the North Island, but southerlies becoming general by the morning. Force moderate to strong. Weather: Becoming fine in the western districts from Taranaki southwards. Elsewhere some scattered rain especially in the eastern districts between Cook Strait and East Cape. Temperatures colder. Following are the barometer, maxtmum and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readuigs recorded at tjhe Goverrnment Obseryation Sta« tjon by the Rotorua Tburisf Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
