The vislprs . were victorious by j generous ma.gin> but the games weq very closely bintested and some ej cellent form shown. Particula interest was ta^en in the play o Charters, a strorg left-hand player, who was seen in Rotorua last yeaj against the Australfins, Dunlop ar,j Purcell. Charters is fctill playing exceptionally well and was not reallj extended to beat Smith, the Bo. torua number one ^an? 6 — 1, 6 1, The latter seemed u^able to strike t length against his lefuhanded opj>A ent, but shaped muchbetter Jater a the day in doubles plar. E. North, Rotorua's tfird man, taj a good win over Taykr, and ItDowell accounted for Mclgaard. bertson and McDowell vere in fiuf form in the men's doubles and aft» winning- the first set, 6 — 4 cut looss in the second and hit hail and accurately. Robertson was larticuiaily go-od overhead and they took^ set, 6 — 1. Smith and North put uj a great fight against Charters and Stedmai and took the first set 6 — 4 ; they weq unable to keep the pace up, h»wever, and dropped the next two 3—6, 4— { The Rotorua ladies were leavilj defeated in the singles, Miss Enigf being the only one to show any. thing like form, and. succeediig | taking a set from Miss Hogg. Hrsi Crawford and Miss Knight drojpej the first set 2 — 6, against Miss ^ Crea and Miss Merrilees, but raliej and were leading 4 — 2 in the secoj when Miss Merrilees had the misf-t-tune to severely injure her ankle ai the game had to be abandoned. Miss Merrilees was taken to I: Hay's surgery and the injury was atended to but it is likely that si will be incapacitated for som weeks. The visitors were entertained a luneheon at the Lake House Hote and the ladies' committee proyidei a very excellent morning and afternoon tea. ' The courts were in excellent play ing order and drew praise from thi visitors. Ladies' Singles Miss Hogg -beat Miss Knight, 6—1 5—6, 6 — 3; Miss McCrea beat Mk .Crawford, 6 — 1, 6 — 0; Miss Mirrie lees beat Miss Wright, 6 — 4, 6—2 Mrs. Heald beat Miss Manson, 6—5 6—2. Men's Doubles Charters and Steedman beat Smit and North, 4—6, 6—3, 6—4; Taylo and Mollgaard lost to Robertson ar McDowell, 4 — 6, 1 — 6.
