GROWERS RUSHING THE WORKS TO AVOID LOWER SCHEDULE WORKS EXCEPTIONALLY BUSY
Hamilton, Thursday. Farmers of the distriet are Iosing no chance to get their fat Iambs on the . marlcet just at present. It is reported that in view of the fact that the ruling schedule of 7d per lb will definitely cease next.week, there is a frenzied rush to get lambs killed before the lower price applies. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 Iambs are being killed daily at the Horotiu, Southdown and Westfield works, but only a fraction of this number will be handled next week. In order to prevent loss of weight many more lambs are going to the works by lorry this year. No announcement has yet been made regarding the new schedule coming into operation next week, but the indications point to a decline of at least Sd per lb.
