Hospital auth'orities reported last evening that a slight improvement was evident in j the condition of Margaret Hayward, ; ©ged 15, who slipped into a hot pool ' in ihe Kuirau Reserve on Monday afternoon. Visiting Anglers' Bag A hag totalling 23 fish was secured by Messrs J. Gribble and C. Gouk' during three days' fishing in the district lakes this week. From Lake Rotorua the pair took 16 fish', while i five were taken .at Rotoiti and two I from. the Green Lake. j Renovation Wiork Brisk A good stimulus to the building ■and painting trade has been given in Rotorua by an unusual amount of renovation work in botels and boarding house in prep.aration for the coming .season. At present work of a fairly extensive nature is being undertaken in no fewer than six of these while one other painting job was recently completed. 'Busy Clvristmas Promised With a little over four weeks until j Christmas, hotel bookings indicate I that a busy season will be experienc- ! ed in Rotorua during the holiday ' period. Included in some of the bookings already made is a number by qverseas tourists, including a party of eleven from England, travelling ifogether. I Narrow Escape i It is reported that an employee on ; one of the timber locomotives operI ating on the Rotoiti line had a narrow ' escape from injury during the week. , Jumping off the cow-catcher of the • engine to open a stop gate, he slip- : ped and fell in front of the still moving locomotive. With a quick movement. however, he succeeded in dnagging himself back on to the 'catcher and in jumping clear before the engine struck the gate.
