Akron, Ohio, Nov. 20. Seeking to penetrate the mystery of the cosmic ray, Commander T. G. W. Settle, of the United gtates Navy, and Major L. Fordriey, .of the Marine Corps, took off at 9.27 on Monday morning, expecting to rise 36,000ft in a few hours. Attaining a height in excess of 58,000 feet,. according to the altimeter inside the gondola, Commander Settle and Major Fordney late on Monday began their descent in their huge balloon. They intend to land near Washington.
