Fishing in the Wiaikato RiverB Atiamuri over the week-end, tfl rods, Messrs Humphries, Purcell I Cox took 57 good conditioned ■ averaging 31bs. Th'e heaviest I taken was a good six pounder. ■ fish were taken on the fly ani harling. 1 Bad Stretch of Roiad fl The Whakatane County CouncilB not yet succeeded in bringing I stretch of road between the Eot« Gorge and Te Teko into reasoiiH repair and it still takes prideB place as the worst length of zfl highway between Opotiki and Afl land. The road at this point, is W badly corrugated and although ail fort has been made to repair it™ pumice, it has not been adeqna® graded and it is now studded V pot-holes and water ruts. The pia* road in question compares very 4 with the generally good standariB roads in the adjoining counties ■ Rotorua and Opotiki. B Lake Feed for Trout 1 An exceptionally large amount oil small shell-fish "isadora lir iata" isB ported in Lake Rotoehu and it pected that this will have a vfl beneficial effect upon the conditkJB the fish in this lake. The fall iaB level of the water has been f°U°B hy ,a very large growth of the shell-fish heds are around ■ roots of this growth. It has been &B that in Motuopa Bay, Lake TaB where the "liriata" heds are /■ large, that the fish are always hB eeptionally good condition. A 4 ber of fish taken in Rotoehu overB week-end all indicated from ■ stomach contents that the fish fl feeding almost exclusively on ■ shell-fish and the green heetle. V fish taken from Rotoehu so far j season have all been in good condiH although inclined to be a little dfl in colour. 9 Engineers Break Camp 1 The first field company New W land Engineers, which has beenH camp at Arawa Park for the !■ week, yesterday struck canvas. ■ officers and 30 other ranks we^l camp and an interesting series ®9 ercises was carried out inchj bridge building, roadwork, deinolj and topographical work. Good * ther was experienced throughoutl camp and all ranks thoroughly ed their stay. !Oti Sunday, the cipal B,and rendered a progra»®B music and a number of townspej paid a visit of inspection. Dc|,1l among the visitors were the M!J| and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. T-5 son). Th'e offieer commandin? I camp, M'ajor Wj. A. Gr&y, HA ■ terday expressed appreciation e{l programme given hy the band ■ also the action of the manage11! of the Dixieland dance hall in fm taining the men as its guests auj dances during the week. Conunfc 1 ed officers in camp' were Major O.G., Captains Gfeville, (medical offieer), and L. F. RuddM jutant), Lieutenants Dyer amp maine and Padre Thompson.
