Tho Government metoorolopilat laaued the fojlowing Weather ^'p'ort' and forecast last nifht: — General situation : A slight anticyclone is passing off northern New Zealand. A moderate westerly depression is advancing across the south Aasman Sea, while a cyclone is located off the New South Wales coast. Forecast: Winds, fresh northerlies to north-westerlies reaching gale force in places, backing to southerlies in the South Island V/ithin the next 24 to 36 hours. Weather: Cloudy to overcast in western districts from Taranaki southwards with rain developing. Elsewhere fair at first, but unsettled conditions gradually extending over the Dominion with fairly general rain likely within the next two days. TemperatUres warm but becoming cooler in the south to-mor-row. Fcllowing are the barometeff maxlmum and minimnni thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Sta* tion by the ftotorua Toqrist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
