-By Telegraph — Copyright).
(Rec. 9.55 p.m.) London, Nov. 17. The Daily Telegraph's Gossip writer at Petersborough learns that the total of the estate of the late Sir John R. Ellerman will exceed £40,000,000, with the necessity for the payment of over £20,000,000 to the State, of which about £16r000,000 will be received by the Chancellor before March. This is the equivalent of an amount which would be required to reduce the income tax by threepence in the £ if it could be devoted to that purpose. Sir John Reeves-Ellerman, who was born in 1862 and died a short time ago was controlling owner of the Ellerman, City, Hall and Bucknall lines and other steamship tonnage and was also formerly principal owner of the Leyland Line.
