WHAKA SEWERAGE
FINISHING TOUCHES NOW BEING GIYEN TO SCHEME. At Wednesday night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, the town clerk advised that a request had been sent to the Minister of Native Affairs asking that the promised contribution of £900 by his department toward the cost of the Whakarewarewa sewerage scheme should he forwarded. In reply, ,a letter had heen reeeived from the Minister advising that the contribution referred to was intended to be apportioned hetween the Maori Purposes Fund Control Board, the Arawa Trust Board, and the Native Department in equal amounts, and steps had been taken hy him to inform, the two boards mentioned of the council's wishiesw The qujestion of
the Native Department's share had heen submitted to Cabinet for its consideration and approval. Payment, of course, would require to await the passage of the Appropriation Act later on in the session. In reply to a question, the Mayor intimated that the scheme was now practically completed and that the plumbers were now putting in the final fittings. Ifc was decided to hold a dinner and social on Saturday evening to mark the completion 'of the work and to tender it as a complimentafy function to the drainage engineer (Mr. F. J. Lenihan), who has now completed the period of his engagement with 'the council. Members of the drainage committee of the previous council who were responsible for the initiation of the scheme will he invited to attend.
