APPEARS IN LONDON COURT REGARDING A CHEQUE

London, October 6. Mrs. Irene Marguerite Campbell Sneyed, once described as, "the bestdressed woman in London," was sued at Westminster County Court yesterday by Mr. Horace Narbeth, photographer, trading as Roye, Rue la Boetie, Paris, for £32, the amount of a cheque drawn by her in his fayour in March last. Mr. Hobley, for plaintiff, said that Mrs. Sneyed ordered photographs and exchanged some money with Mr. Narbeth. She admitted giving the cheque. Mrs. Sneyd appeared in person. A barrister whom she expected to appear on her bebalf was engaged in the Appeal Court. Yhe Judge: You have refused the help of an able young counsel. Why should you not pay the cheque? Mrs. Sneyd: Because I gave the cheque for some money Mr, Narbeth promised to obtain. He advanced me only 200 francs. Mr. Hobley asked her whether she signed an order for 18 unmounted ancl two mounted photographs costing 2,250 francs. Mrs. Sneyd : I didn't sign the documenj; and it is undated. • The order and the cheque were handed to Mrs. Sneyd by the judge, and she agreed that the signature was hers. Judgment was given for Mr. Nar- ' beth for the amount claimed, and costs.
