CLIPPINGS FROM "THE CHRONICLE." i •September 11, 1897. — jA dispute i which has been going on for some time between the Chureh of England -Maoris and the Hauhaus at Korito is becoming more laccentuated, and it is thought there may be recourse to fighting. It appears tbat several infiuential Natives have lately gone over .to Hauhauism, and they are endeavouring to build a Hauhau church close up to the existing English church. A meeting is to be held on the 13th inst., and some fiery talk is expected to ensue. September 11, 1897. — At a meeting of the Town Board it was resolved that the licenses to net fish in Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti be £3 per annum. It was also resolved that the license to' angle in any of the streams or lakes not reserved be 10s per annum, and that the fee for the general license be £1; that the mesh of all nets used in the lakes be 3Jin. in diameter; that a charge of Id per lb be charged on all fish exported from the district, and that the holders of netting licenses inform the local representatives of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society of the total weight of fish exported, and should fals.& returns be sent in the, license to net fish will be forfeited; that 80 per cent. of the fees eollected in the district be expended in the County of Rotorua.
