NATIYE DEPARTMENT IN3ISTS IN CLAIMING FROM COUNCIL At a recent meetings the Rotorua Borough Council was advised that under a late ruling by the Audit Department, the Native Department was entitled to recover a.ll heavy traffic fees paid the council. The amount involved is in the vicinity of £300 and the council decided to reply stating that it was not satisfied with the claim and declining' to pay the amount. At last evening's meeting of the council, however, it w&a. advised by the Native Department that it had referred the matter to the Paymaster General who had intimated that the amount would be recovered from the first payment due by the council. Councillors expressed the opinion that the matter should be referred to the borough solicitor and it was decided to leave action in this direction to the General Committee.
