CHARGED WITH THEFT AND CONVERSION OF CARS MAN SENT TO GAOL

Auckland, Wednesday. The young man and girl, who were arrested at Whangarei after being found asleep in a car in the early hours of the morning of October 29, appeared in the police court to-day on four charges of theft and two of the unlawful conversion of motor vehicles. The accused, Roy Taylor, aged 22 years, and . Jean- Gwendoline Brown, aged 18 years, were jointly charged with the unlawful convei'sion to their own use of a motor car valued af £100 and a- motor van valued at £40, stealing 12 gallons of petrol worth £1 3's, an attache case, knif e and 'spoon, food, sundry articler of clothing, money and a box of .22 calibre rifle cartridges of a total value of £2 14s 6d. • " " ' ' ; Taylor was sentenced to three months' imprisonnient on! each of the vehicle charges and on one charge Of theft, the-term&.to be cumulative, making nine- months in all. Qn theiremainder of the - charges he was convicted -and dischai'ged.
