BETTER WRESTLERS
PRESIDENT OF N.Z. UNION MAKES NEW SEASON ARRANGEMENTS ) ' RETURN FROM SYDNEY Auckland, Monday. A better class of wrestler Will be seen in New Zealand next season if arrangements made in Sydney by Mr. H. D. Bennett, president of the New Zealand Wrestling Uriion, turn out as expected. Mr. Bennett returned from Sydney by the liner Aorangi this morning. "In order to induce a better class of wrestler to visit New Zealand it was found necessary to offer the men a bigger field in which to operate than New Zealand was able to offer," said Mr. Bennett. "Up to the present the wrestlers who have come to New Zealand have been drawn from the class which were content with the 'gates' offering in the Dominion. It has been abundantly clear in the past that if it was possible to offer Australia as well as New Zealand as a field for operatives the union could draw from the better class of men. "While I was in Australia I looked into wrestling conditions there, and found that the game was at a very low ebb. There is no proper system of control and the men who are participating are of an inferior standard. Stadiums' Limited, have almost closed their doors to wrestling and at first I found that they were not very wining to reopen them under the conditions proposed. In the end, however, negotiations were brought to a successful issue and arrangements have now been made to enable tbe Dominion union to offer the larger field to the wrestlers next year. This will include the larger cities of Australia. It is proposed to interchange the wrestlers between the two countries."
