ALLEGED SHOOTING DOWN OF JAPANESE AIRMEN
(Press Assn.-
CONTRADICTORY REPORTS
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Moscow, Nov. 12. | The British United Press states a story is circulating here that six out of nine Japanese aeroplanes which I flew over Soviet territory in the Far I East recently, were shot down by | Russians, and more than 20 Japanese J airmen were either killed 01* taken ' prisoners. Japanese sources empha- | tically deny there was any such j flight. The theory is advanced in Moscow that the flight was possibly made without the consent 01* knowledge of the higher military command, in which case Tokyo's denial might be technically correct. Officials here refuse to discuss the matter. It is also reported two Japanese naval auxiliary vessels which entered Soviet territorial waters off the coast of Kamchatka were blown up when they failed to obey warnings and withdraw.
