ALLOCATION REDUCED
UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD'S ; PROVISION FOR RELIEF IN ROTORUA NEW RATES THIS' WEEK As a result of a reduction of £77 made by the Unemployment Board in the allocation for relief work in the Rotorua district, alterations to' the number of days of work and rates of pay have become necessary from this week. Although no reasons have been given by the board for the reduced weekly allocations similar reductions were made about this time last year. It is presumed, however, that allocations have been varied as a result of the commencement , of seasonal oceupations. In the ease of Rotorua, however, it was pointed out to a "Post" representative yesterday that it is usual for registrations of unemployed in Rotorua -to show increqses during the spring months, due principally to the closing of planting • work in the forestry camps in the district. During the past few months the weekly allocation for the Rotorua district has been in the vicinity of £512, but the latest allocation of the board has reduced this to £435. In consequenee single men will now receive only one day's work instead of two as previously, while the work offering for married men will be reduced by half a-day weekly. The reduced allocation provides for the following rates of weekly pay, with the usual provision of the silent week, the previous rates being given in parenthesis : — Single men, 7/6; married man with no children, £1 (£1 5s) ; married Maoris (no children), 10s (15s) ; married, one child, £1 5s (£1 10s) ; Maoris, one child, 15s (£1) ; married, two or more children, £1 10s (£1 15s) ; Maoris, two or more children, £1 (no alteration).
