CLIPPINGS FROM "THE CHRONICLE." July 28, 1897. — [Is many of our readers are aware, certain changes have taken place in the personnel of some of the hotels here, which were only completed during ths recent visit of Messrs. Davis and Dufaur, of the firms of Messrs. Hancock and Co. and L. D. Nathan and Co. At the Palace Hotel Mr. Waters has been succeeded in the management by Mr. B. Taylor, formerly clerk and storekeeper at the Okoroire Sanatorium. Mr. Taylor, it will be rcmembered, married one of the daughters of Mr. L. Callaghan, manrger of Olcoroire, and the appointment of his daughter and son-in-law to the Palace is loolced upon with much favour, as Okoroire is one of the bestappointed hotels in the district. Mr. Taylor, it may he remarked, represented the firm of Messrs. L. D. Nathan , and Co. on the gumfields for some years. At Lake House, Mr. Urquhart has been succeeded by Mr. H. Friston, formerly of the Forestor's Arms, Christchurch. Before leaving the Gity of the Plains, Mr. Priston was presented with a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated address, signed by the Mayor on behalf of the ! citizens, and by the President of the i Licensed Vietuallers' Association of ; Canterbury.. Mrs. Priston, who aci companies her husband, has had much : experience of the rcquirements of • tourists in some of th'e most-frc quenti ed English watering-plaees. At the I Grand Hotel Mr. Nation, aecountant, ! has been succeeded by Mr. A. Mcj Math', for many years aecountant to j the firm of L. D. Nathan and Co.
