WINOOKA RUNS THIRD IN WESTOVER HANDICAP

Baltimore, October 27 W'inooka, the Australian champion horse, ran third to-day in the WeStover Handicap, six furlongs. The prize was a purse of 1000 dollars. The following was the result: — SPRING STEEL, 8.8 1 HOPE TO DiO, 7.10 2 WINOOKA, 9.0 3 The other starters were: Curacoa, 8.6; De Valera, 7.8; Band Wagon, 7.0. •Hope to Do was the first horse to find his stride. He gave way after the first furlong to De Valera, who set the pace to the head of the stretch and ithen retired. Spring Steel raced in the fourth position down the hack of the stretch and began making his run well around the turn. He came fast when straightened in the stretch and overtook Band W^agon, when 70 yards from the finish. ■Spring Steel ran the distance in 1.11 8-5, one and one-fifth seconds faster than Mate in Wednesday's race. Winooka gave a much hetter performance than on Wlednesday. He was up with the- leaders from the start, being second at the head of tbe stretch, but he then weakened to finish a length behind Hope To Do. _ Mi\ Polson, Winooka's trainer, informed the Australian Press Association that Britt rode to Orders. He was well pleased with the improvement in the- horse but is convinced that Wim -ooka is not quite acclimatised.
