THE WEATHER
The Govemment meteorolopdst iseued the following weather report and - forecast last night:— A depression crossed the South Island last night, but a cyclone which developed in the north, was centred over 'northern Auckland this morning. A fresh depression is already passing over the Tasman. Forecast. Winds : Southerlies, moderate to strong in and north of Cook Straits, elsewhere moderate to strong, later veering to northerlies. Weather: Dull at first north of Westport and Kaikoura, with some rain, but 'improving. Elsewhere temporarily fair to fine, but later again becoming unsettled with rain in the western and southern dis- . tricts of the South Island. Following are the barometer, maxlmum and minimum thermometar, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
