EARLY ROTORUA
CLIPPINGS FROM "THE CHRONICLE." May 29, 1897. — A very pleasant social gathering took place in the Grand Hotel on Thursday . evening when at the invitation of Mjr. W'. A. Boulton, manager, about 30 residents representing the coach and steamer proprietors and those directly concerned in the tourist traffic met at dinner. Dr. Ginders presided, and the repast which was served, besides bearing ample testimony to the choiceness of the • Grand cuisine and its chef, was one with which the most fastidious epicure could find no fault. In the course of a few after-dinner remarks Dr. Ginders reminded the company of the enjoyahle picnic which had taken place at Te Nigae .to signalise the 'Opening of the season. Now, at its conclusidn the firms most interested in the tourist traffic had given this banquet and he trusted that it meant they were satisfied with the season. He thought they deserved all credit for their energy and liiberality and hoped each coming year would be more and more successful. He asked the company to drink to the continued prosperity of the two firms. The toast was drunk with musical h'onours. Mr. Boulton suitably replied. The rest of the evening was agreeably passed, a few choice songs being rendered by various gentlemen present interspersed with occasional 'toasts. Before the company separated the health of "the host and hostess" was drunk with enthusiasm.
