Mr. W. R- Harris pr'esided. The annuai report and balance sheet as already publislied in 'the "Morning Post" was read and adopted*Mr. H. S. Kingon, in " speaking to the report, said that he eonsidered it reflected a great deal of credit upon | the chairman and secretary; there was no doubt that they had been largely responsible for the increased ! vigour shown by the chamber^ since • its amalgamation with the retailers as j sociation. Opposition had been creat1 ed hy the proposal to fuse the two : bodies; but he eonsidered that the rei sults had more than justified the step. ! These remarks were endorsed by Mi. | L. Ewert and a vote of appreciation to the chairman and secretary was carried by acclamation. The election of officers for the Cnsuing year resulted: — President, Mr. W. R. Harris; vicepresidents, Mr. L. Ewert and Mr. H. Langguth; executive committee, Messrs. Musgrave, Dawson, Kingon, Pratt, H. Johnson, R. Garriock, McKerras, A. J. Hart; shopkeepers' committee, Messrs. McKerras, Garriock, Higgins, Pratt, Harris and Kingon; auditor, Mr. L. C. Ryan; treasurer, Mr. J. 'H. Higgins; secretary, Mr. A. H. Budil. Many tributes were paid to the •work done hy Mr. A. H. Budd as. secretary, and he was voted an honorarium of five guineas as a small recbgnition of his services during the year. .. R'egret was expressed by the chairman that there had not been a, larger attendance, and he expressed the hope that husinessmen generally would rally round the chamber.
