TWO MEN CONVICTED OF EMPLOYING THREATS ' Wellington, Friday. Claude McEwan and Paku Kingi, who were found guilty of using threats with intent to extort money, were hrought ibefore the Chief Justice for sentence. _ • The, repor.t of the police was that McEwan was apparently a man of _low mentality, defective underst.andingl, and limited education, and counsel said it might be that he was unable to adeqpately appreeiate the seriousness of his offence. . Kin°i was descrihed as a reliet ; worker, in ill-health, with several children. *. Hiis Honour said he would take the circumstances into account. McEwan w!as sentenced to mne months' hard labour, and Kingi was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months.
