stormy session created by ex-communist witness CONTRADICTORY STATEMENTS

— By Telegraph— Copyright).

(Rec. 7.10 p.m.) Berlin, October 26. The evidence, of Karwahne, an excommunist and now a Nazi deputy provided a stornay session during "the Reichstag fire trial. He is regarded as one of the prosecution's star witnesses. Karwahne said that he and two other deputies were walking to the Reichstag on February 27. Near the Communist rooms they met Torgler and Van der Lubbe together. Herr Sachs, cross-examining the v^itness, showed that Karwahne's evidence was'.repeatedly self-conti'adic-tory. He remembered naany more details than in the first examination. Karwahne was perturbed when Torgler asked hiiaa whether he had led the attack on the Communist headquaa'ters in Havana and had supplied anti-Communist material to the newspapers after he joined the Nazis. The presicjent continually interrupted the proceedings to shield Karwahne who evaded examination and finally took refuge in a refusal to answer, even when the president adrnitted the question. Dimitroff asked Karwahne many cuestions which the president disallowed.
