WHO OWNS THEM?
BOROUGH CLAIMS SEATS USED IN GOVERNMENT GROUNDS THREE GIVEN BACK For some time past, the Rotorua Borough Council has been endeavouring to secure possession of several park seats, originally the property of the old Rotorua Town Board, and now in the Government Gardens. The council took the view that these seats were rightly the property of the borough and accordingly requested the department to return a number of t the seats. • The department, however, refused to admit the borough's claim and when first representations were made, stated that owing to the shortage of seats in the gardens, it was unable to agree to the request. The council refused to take this as final, however, and wrote again stressing its claim to the seats. In reply to this letter a communication was received from the department at last evening's council meeting, stating that it was prepared to make three of the seats available, but on the express understanding that the borough had no rightful claim to them. Councillors were at first inclined to object to this condition, but finally decided to overlook it and aceept the offer made. It was, however, decided to thank the department for its offer.
